One of the most advanced and extraordinary boat debuts at the Cannes Yachting Festival was the Vandal Explorer a 14-metre foil-assisted power catamaran.
The pioneers.
She is styled by world renowned superyacht designer Espen Øino paired with a foiled based underwatership by Canadian Scott Jutson.
The concept all started with Ben Mennem a veteran in the industry, “I wanted to build this boat to go out and explore with my family”
The Concept.
The concept “less is more” is why Vandal sticked with the aluminum you don’t have to stick with a mould like GRP boats. You can customize the Explorer to your needs. Diving? Make a long bench for putting on diving tanks with ease. Party? Remove everything and place beanbags with a beam of 4.40m there is plenty of space for dancing. No matter your desire the aluminum Vandal can make it happen!
Performance.
Performance wise the Explorer is fast, agile and feels rugged! Due to the asymmetrical hull, it still banks into corners like a monohull, and you don’t get a slingshot like most of the power catamarans. “I’ve been on the Explorer for 1,5 month now, the boat is incredibly fun! it feels like a flying carpet over waves, has speed, and it draws a lot of attention I especially like the fender that has 1 lower and 1 higher location it’s easy to drop of your guest without a worry that you will damage your or the other boat.” Says the captain of one of the Explorers.
The Vandal Explorer cruises around 27 knots then it uses approximately 150 liters an hour, with its dual 630-liter tank you can reach 240nm with ease. Her top speed is 43knots!
Fitted with a pair of Yamaha 425hp XTO offshore, these next generation of outboards are reliable and easy to drive. Joystick control makes the boat maneuver to the most difficult spots with ease, 15 years of sailing experience in 15 minutes with the joystick drive! And when your done just trim the Yamaha’s up and keep the mechanical out of the salt water, less maintance more fun on the water!
